Early Education Key to a Lifetime of Oral Health

Early Education Key to a Lifetime of Oral Health

At Westerville Pediatric Dental we are passionate about teaching children the importance of oral health. Educating them about oral hygiene at an early age can lead to healthy habits that throughout their life. Most of us are unaware that a healthy mouth can have lasting effects on our overall health. Research published by CDC found that 1 in 5 children suffers from untreated tooth decay (aged 5-11 years). This can lead to pain and discomfort, disrupting their ability to learn, or missing school due to delayed treatment. Fortunately, tooth decay is preventable, and by taking the time to teach children healthy habits you can help prevent unnecessary discomfort and save time and money in the long term. There are steps you can take to help your child. Children learn from their parents, so demonstrating proper oral health techniques will encourage them to do the same. By the age of ten kids may begin flossing, making sure they are doing this on a regular basis is important in forming life-long habits. Additionally it is critical that they are coming to the dentist for their annual check-ups. At Westerville Pediatric Dental we make a fun and engaging environment to teach kids that coming to the dentist isn’t an anxiety provoking experience. We take the time to teach our patients how important oral health is during their appointment. Westerville Pediatric Dental believes so much in education for children that we present no cost seminars in the community. These presentations can be geared toward children, adults or both! For more information on these presentations or to schedule one call our office today.
