Keeping Kid’s Cavity Free

Keeping Kid’s Cavity Free

It seems as though kids are prone to cavities, it’s almost a fact of life. The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research states that 42% of children ages 2 through 11 have had cavities. Although cavities happen and they are fixable (for the most part) the best way to avoid cavities is to prevent them. Experts tell us that cavities are almost 100% preventable. There are several measures you can take to help your child prevent cavities. First and foremost, start them young. Teaching your kids and taking measures for them (when they aren’t old enough to themselves) while young will help them develop healthy habits and keep those as they grow older. It’s suggested that children should see a dentist by their first birthday, or first tooth. Once their teeth do emerge, daily brushing should occur, and once their teeth grow together, you should begin flossing them. Avoiding starchy and sugary food can help keep their smile healthy as well. Be sure to visit the dentist twice a year for cleanings and check-ins. This can help diagnose a cavity in its early stages making it much easier to treat. Last but not least, kids are very impressionable. Modeling good oral hygiene will teach the importance of it. If you implement these simple measures, you can help your children prevent the agony of tooth decay and protect their beautiful smile.
