The beginning of a New Year is the time many of us set new goals to improve our lives! Many have begun to use this time for reflection and improvement a time to focus on the family and incorporate a #familygoals agenda. Not only will shared goals focused on improving the family structure put your focus on the most important people in your life, but also the very act of goal setting and keeping can help improve everything from communication, to fostering a better understanding of those closest to you.
When setting #familygoals, it is important to let everyone; even the smallest members share in the creation of worthy goals to benefit the family unit. When each family member has a voice, there is a stronger commitment to achieving the goals you set! Popular family goals include making sitting down to dinner with the family, participating in a charitable cause as a family, setting aside time for family “date night” and even a family time free of technology (often deemed “no tech Tuesdays).
No matter what goals you decide will improve your family, it is important to document them for all to see, and discuss strategies that will help you to stick to them! It probably won’t surprise you to learn that over 90% of the goals we set ever make it to fruition, however when you rally the family team and goal set together you can draw on the willpower of more than just the individual. Valuable lessons can be learned along the way, on time management, communication and following through on promises made. You can end the year with a “win” in the family goals column and look forward to a new set in the following year! Don’t forget to reward the family for successes along the way as well.
