Why a Pediatric Dentist?

Dr. Joel Richards D.D.S.

Pediatric Dental Specialist

“I love working with children in a family-oriented approach, and helping them all have a positive and fun dental experience.”

OH…IO! I’m a proud Buckeye that grew up in Westerville, Ohio. My friends and patients describe me as a passionate kid’s dentist that is enthusiastic and entertaining. My training is grounded in dental hygiene practices. I believe every dental appointment is an opportunity for us to educate about individualized dental hygiene exercises and dietary counseling. Prevention is key, and we enjoy employing new and innovative techniques to foster a strong rapport with all children. We understand dentistry can be scary. Westerville Pediatric Dental is all about making healthy smiles in a fun environment.

I graduated from Worthington Christian High School in 2005, and then proceeded on a comprehensive path of Dentistry. I started my training in the Dental Hygiene Program for four years at The Ohio State University where I met my wife, Trisha. We are Dental School sweethearts! Of course, I continued as a Buckeye where I graduated with honors, Magna Cum Laude. After four more years of Dental School, my education was not yet complete; I traveled to Nebraska to expand my abilities to care for infants, children and adolescents with special heath care needs at the University of Nebraska at the Omaha Children’s Hospital and Medical Center.

2016: Awarded the Richard C. Pugh Achievement Award for scoring within the top 3% on the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry Qualifying Exam.

Melissa Moore Office manager

Practice Administrator

“I cherish the moments when children tell me how much fun they just had in our office. It’s music to my ears and motivates me daily to ensure that every child has an excellent dental check-up!”

Melissa has been working in the dental field for eleven wonderful years. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in History Education with a Minor in Political Science. As a result, she is uniquely trained to utilize this background in education to teach children about oral health in a non-traditional classroom setting. Melissa is committed to making visits fun for her patients. The little ones describe her as energetic and goofy. Her demeanor makes children excited about their next trip to the dentist. One of her favorite parts about her job is seeing big smiles on children’s faces as they recap their dental experiences on the way out! Fun Fact: She lived abroad in Spain and in Ecuador with host families during high school and college.  While she was in Ecuador, she attended school to earn college credit. She is interested in learning about other cultures and enjoys visiting other countries, especially while cruising. She also enjoys spending time with her family, friends, shopping, and going to movies. Melissa and her husband, Chris, have two daughters, Makayla and Makenna and a son Micah! She feels so blessed to be a mom, and we are blessed to have Melissa in our office.

“I am passionate about being able to make an impact on patient’s lives.”

Britt started her career in retail, but she wanted a change and realized right away that dentistry was her passion. The best part of her job is interacting with and meeting new people. Best of all, she loves being able to have an impact on her patients by helping to make a difference in their lives. Britt is always able to put a smile on patients face with her bubbly personality. When she and Adam aren’t running around with their two children, Anniston and Hudson, or outside playing with their dog Luna, Britt is cheering loud for her two favorite teams, the Buckeyes and Browns!

Together, they enjoy swimming, hiking, and exploring the outdoors. Amy is a bit of foodie and enjoys cooking and trying out new restaurants. Shopping and traveling are on top of the list when it comes to ways she finds relaxing. Amy and her family love their annual trek to Disney World and enjoy visiting the beach.
