February is here, and once again we celebrate National Children’s Dental Health Month! The American Dental Academy first celebrated this holiday in Akron, Ohio in 1941, and it is now a month-long, national holiday. The goal each year is to raise awareness of the importance of children’s oral health. This year’s campaign, “Choose Tap Water for a Sparkling Smile.” emphasizes the importance of tap water as it contains fluoride, which bottle water does not. The American Dental Association is also encouraging kids to choose tap water to avoid beverages with added sugar, which can lead to cavities. Of course, diet is just one piece to the puzzle of your child’s oral health. Teaching and engaging your child in twice daily brushing and flossing, while keeping their dental checkups a priority are also crucial to setting your child on the path of a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums. Westerville Pediatric Dental is proud to be your partner in reinforcing good behavior. We make it our priority to create a fun, relaxing environment that will have your child looking forward to their next dental visit!
