This April?

This April, we are again working to bring some awareness to Autism. It’s Autism Awareness Month. Autism spectrum disorders are an umbrella of disorders ranging from mild to severe that affect neurological development. Austism can show up in communication skills, cognitive function, and social interaction. It is estimated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that 1 in 68 children are diagnosed with autism in the United States. It is one of the fastest-growing developmental disorder, according to the National Autism Association.

Although each person is unique in their symptoms, some everyday activities can cause stress and anxiety for a person with autism and their families. This is especially true for kids. Novel situations and changes in routine may provoke overstimulation or cause an upset. Westerville Pediatric Dental understand that going to the dentist can be a stressful experience for any child, especially children with special needs. That is why we provide a range of experiences to accommodate you and your child’s needs. We want to make their visit to the dentist as comfortable and as stress-free as possible.

To prepare your child with autism for their appointment, we provide an online tour of the office and offer an in-person visit to become familiarized with the office. We also can play a preferred movie or show to make the visit more fun. Or if your child would like the bring their own device to keep them comfortable, we welcome it in the chair during their appointment!
